STAFF REPORTS

Secretary-Treasurer Sells reported on the Labor/Neighbor event held on Saturday, Sept. 22nd. He singled out Laborers 292 and asked Dan Christofferson and Doug Scott to stand for their work on getting volunteers out. He noted that other locals helped, but the bulk of the volunteers came from LIUNA 292.

Delegates were invited to participate in the October 20th Super Walk leaving from the Everett Labor Temple.

Sec. Treas. Sells also reported on meeting with ILWU 32 to talk with them about re-affiliating. He also mentioned a State Labor Council request regarding a meeting concerning WalMart that would be held on Friday.

Also noted were the comments from County Councilman John Koster, who is running for Congress, regarding tagging immigrant workers with bar codes like cattle.

REPORTS OF UNIONS

Organizing—None

Contract Negotiations—WFSE 948, Randy Kurtz reported on an agreement being voted on this week for a new general government contract. They are in the process of voting on it. It ends the 3% decrease and adds a step for 2.5% longevity raise. There is a possible 1% COLA on 7/1/2014. It would also cap how much they will have to pay on health care.

SPEEA/IFPTE2001, Lynn Burow noted that the Boeing contract offer was pretty lousy. However, they are giving their members a vote on it. Ballots will be counted on October 1st. Rejection is recommended. Jim Gillan reported that Boeing does not want to honor early retirement option for people with medical issues and pre-65 retirees would lose health care in the Boeing offer. Leafleting and picketing will be going on September 27th to highlight the issues.

Wash Tech/CWA, Rennie Sawade reported on the Microsoft employee rating system and how the corporation is trying to push it on the teachers of this state.

GOOD OF THE ORDER

Ann Seabott, WashTech, United Way Labor Advisory Committee, reported on the Toys for Tots program which we are partnering with again this year and the November 16th Volunteers Day. On October 17th, there will be a seminar for local union leaders to help aid them with members needing hardship assistance. It will be at the Labor Temple. Jason Redrup, IAM 751, noted that the seminar was a good one for staff to help with short term crisis needs.

Michele Stelovich, WSLC Labor Neighbor, talked with delegates regarding recruiting for the phone banks and the walks. There is an upcoming walk in Mt. Vernon on October 6th.

Dan Christofferson, LIUNA 292, gave an update on Jim Smith, Labor Radio Journal Coordinator, who was recently released from the hospital and is recovering.

Doug Scott, LIUNA 292, noted how much higher the unemployment was for building trades worker and the need to be involved in the election. He threw out a friendly challenge to other locals to get their members involved.

Teresa Randall, IBEW 89, reported on their recent Women?s Conference in Washington, DC.

Jim Gillan, SPEEA, reported on FUSE phone banking efforts and a new dialing program.

The meeting was adjourned at 6:36 PM

Respectfully submitted,

Mike Sells, Secretary-Treasurer
