Minutes of 1/23/2019 SCLC Delegate Meeting

The meeting was called to order at 6:01 PM by President Jason Redrup. The presidentÕs message was read and the Pledge of Allegiance was held.

A motion was made to approve the minutes from the December 2018 meeting; the motion passed.

Credentials

Elizabeth Maass;  OPEIU Local 8, was sworn in.

Guests

Liz Vogeli, Everett City Council:  was present and wanted to say hi to the delegates. Liz gave a short report on the districting process for the City Council.

Amanda Gomez, United Way:  was present and stated she was looking forward to working together on the Letter CarriersÕ Food Drive and other events.

Reports of Officers

President Jason Redrup reported on the recent election for Washington State Labor Council President and Secretary Treasurer. Larry Brown is the new President and April Sims is the new Secretary Treasurer.

Secretary Treasurer Leonard Kelley, talked about the schedule of events for the year. Leonard emphasized the May festival on the calendar adding that we are now the Snohomish & Island County Labor Council. He added that Island County has not been affiliated with any Labor Council till now.

Leonard reported that the Labor Council will be having a class on Organizing for non- organizers. He also reminded the delegates that solidarity night at the Silvertips was coming up on February 22nd and that 1000 tickets had been sold.

Leonard gave an update on the Regional Apprenticeship Program mentioning that Mike Sells wrote the bill currently scheduled to come before committee next week.

Union Communications

Mary Malone, OPEIU Local 8:  Updated on their current negotiations with Providence Hospital. She also thanked all the delegates who signed cards to the CEO of Providence.

Michael Boe, Teamsters 117: Updated on the upcoming corrections lobby day in Olympia.

John Sainz, ATU 1576: Reported that after a record setting 29 Months that reached an agreement with Community Transit. John added that they had just settled their contract with First Transit, adding that their membership stuck together during some tough adversity and negotiated a very good contract.

Polagaya McLaughlin, AFCSME Local 109:  Reported that their negotiations with the airport are at a standstill.

Dave Van Pelt, IAM 751: Reported that Boeing is changing structure of quality control by reducing the number of inspectors and this could affect 300-400 of their members.

Fidencio Valesco, UBC 70: Reported that they were bringing Mark McDermott on February 5th to give a lecture and it was open to any of the delegates.

Eric Wiseman, AFSCME 1020 :  Announced that  there was a new federal law that was prohibiting L and I inspectors from doing their jobs.

Gary Naple, IAM 751 C:  Reported they were going into negotiations with Pace Aerospace.

New Business

IBEW 46 submitted a resolution in support of 75 workers with ADT. The resolution came with a recommendation for the Executive board to support. A vote was held and the resolution passed.

Nominations for Secretary Treasurer were held, Leonard Kelley was nominated at the December meeting. There were no further nominations.

Nominations were held for Trustee Position #2; Suzanne Murphy was nominated at the December meeting. There were no further nominations.

Nominations were held for Trustee position #6; Teresa Johnson was nominated at the December meeting. There were no further nominations.

Nominations were held for Vice President; Doug Scott was nominated at the December meeting. There were no further nominations.

Nominations were held for Sergeant at Arms; John Sainz and Dan Murphy were nominated at the December meeting. There were no further nominations.

John and Dan gave a short presentation on their backroads and why they want the position.

A paper ballot election was held for Sergeant at Arms and John Sainz won.

The officers were sworn in.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:11 PM
