COMMON SENSE
ECONOMICS
The meeting
was given over to a presentation and discussion on Common Sense Economics led
by Paul Krissel, AFL/CIO State Director from Oregon.
A power point presentation highlighted some economic statistics that showed the
growing gap between those at the high end of earning scale and those at the lower
ends, the gross disparities created by high CEO pay, and the decreasing union
density in the United States
that underlies many of the problems. Delegates discussed their own experiences
with economic difficulties and problems with organizing. The power point
presentation was made available to all the delegates.
GOOD OF THE ORDER
Bob Gorman,
AFL/CIO State Director for Washington,
invited delegates to the 50th Anniversary Concert in memory of the
Peace Arch Concert of Paul Robeson in 1952. It will be May 18, 2002 at the Peace
Arch Park
in Blaine. Robeson, a gifted
athlete, actor, singer and thinker was denied permission to leave the US
to sing at convention of metal workers in Vancouver,
BC. In reaction, the concert was organized
at the Peace Arch
Park in Blaine,
Washington.
Allyn Triezenberg asked delegates
to take the Worker Memorial posters announcing Worker Memorial Day on April 28th.
The posters feature union members working in the rubble of the World
Trade Center.
Worker Memorial Day will be commemorated at the County
Courthouse on Monday, April 29th
at 5:30 PM
Vice
President Wentworth introduced Deborah Knutson, President of the Economic
Development Council of Snohomish County who attended the meeting to hear the
