COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Organizing: The Organizing Committee Chair Paul Quaintance showed a Power Point presentation on what it would be like if the election for President in 2004 had to follow the same format as a union election. This was followed by a panel that discussed the kinds of threats and intimidation they had received when trying to organize a union in their places of employment. The panel included Ruth Sharrett, SEIU 1199NW, Jeff Wedebrand, IBT 763 and Joe Chartier, OPEIU 8.

REPORTS OF UNIONS

Organizing: IBEW 191, Darrell Chapman, noted his 18 years in organizing and the process of salting used by his local to bring in new members and contracts.

Contract negotiations and maintenance:

Other Local Activity:   Tom Plummer, IAM 751F, reported on the WISHA Monitoring Committee. He noted that a group called the We Care Coalition was suing the state on ergonomics rules. They are trying to create a hysterical response among businesses regarding the implementation and cost of the rules and have resorted to even lying about what it does. Many of the larger companies have already implemented ergonomics programs effectively and with little cost.
