GUESTS

John Bonner, Executive Director, Corporate & Continuing Education Center of Everett Community College went over the training programs available. They work with industry to develop programs for needed job training. They have also worked with the Machinists apprenticeship program for aerospace training. He left contact information for the delegates.

Michael Lapointe, Move-On.org, discussed efforts to get Occupy Everett going. Last night they had over 90 people interested in getting it started. They have the permits submitted to the Snohomish County Courthouse. This is an on-going project.

Jim Smith, KSER Radio Labor Journal, updated the delegates on what the program would be featuring. The last program was on the Everett Massacre. Check out the KSER FM  90.7 program guides on line for the time and day. They are usually on the 3rd Monday of the month.

EXECUTIVE BOARD REPORT

Sec. Treas. Sells updated delegates on partnering with United Way to help with the Letter Carriers Food Drive in May. He reported that the Social Security Forum at Everett CC drew over 300 people and thanked Steven Horn, AFT 1873, for his organizing on it. The AWPPW is looking at a new possible agreement with a possible new buyer of Kimberly Clark and will be talking with members the next few days on what an agreement might include. The Anchor Pub in Everett is hosting a Labor Night on November 2nd.

REPORTS OF UNIONS

Organizing—Sec. Treas. Sells reported that President Chapman was in the Tri-Cities doing door to door organizing work with electrical workers.

Contract Negotiations—no updates

Other Local Activities—Bob James, NALC 791 asked for signatures on a petition to save Saturday postal deliveries. Closing on Saturday would impact 20,000 jobs nationwide and affect mail delivery during the week. The deficit was caused primarily by the postal service needing to over pay retirement by substantial amounts and pre-pay health benefits for 75 years in the future. It has caused a postal service deficit.

GOOD OF THE ORDER/ANNOUNCEMENTS

Steve Horn, AFT 1873, reported that there would be 12:30PM Occupy Everett meeting at Everett CC this next Tuesday. Eric Wiseman, WFSE 1020, encouraged extra caution around safety issues as we enter the winter months, as did Chris Glenn, Laborers 292, who does flagging work. Jim Gillan, SPEEA, commented, "I have been to Westlake Park for rallies and have listened to the speakers and talked for hours with bystanders. In other cities and states it may make sense to blame everyone in government for what they don't like about America today but in Washington State most all of the people that have a 'D' in front of their name are concerned for labor and working people. The are on the ragged edge of what they can get away with to help us and still get elected, and that is very hard these days - we need to be patient. The 'occupy people' have forgotten that the guy in the White House used to be a street level organizer back in Chicago, not a lobbyist.Ó

The meeting was adjourned at 6:35 PM

Respectfully submitted,

Mike Sells, Secretary-Treasurer
