Minutes of the Meeting of June 25, 2003
The meeting was called to order at 7:00 PM by President
Chapman followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. Minutes of the previous meeting
were approved as typed and handed out. The Vice President was on vacation and
sent an appropriate greeting.

M/S/C to seat the delegate that was present. Monte Turner, AFSCME 113 was present and obligated.
The Secretary-Treasurer read a request for strike support for Carpenters currently on strike against Associated General Contractors.

The Executive Board met on Thursday, June 19th and interviewed the following candidates for office:
On Wednesday, June 25th at 5:30 PM the Board met and interviewed:
As a result of these and other interviews, recommendations action was taken under COPE in the meeting.
The Board also recommended the following which come to the body with a motion and a second:
The Board also decided that the Secretary-Treasurer should go to the AFL/CIO meeting in Chicago, Aug. 2 and 3, which will be a joint meeting of all state and local CLC’s regarding the 2004 elections.
The Secretary-Treasurer handed out a typed report and discussed the following: transportation initiatives, Everett Housing Authority planning, CWU, electric rate increases, port barge pier, Machinists rally, public finance district, EDC, 3 CLC meetings.
Secretary-Treasurer Sells also showed a power point presentation from the AFL/CIO on issues facing workers in upcoming elections.
Community Services: Judy Neumann, IAM 751F reported on Community Service activities and a number of ‘thank-you’s’ were given out including:

Contract
negotiations and maintenance-Kelly Blomquist, IBT 763 stated that they
beginning stages of bargaining for sheriff’s support personnel. Budgets are due this month, and they are
concerned about staffing cuts affecting their members.
Other Reports: Bob Monize, LIUNA 292, spoke about Texas offering to build a building for Boeing. President Chapman, who had recently been in the Fort Worth area, also responded to reports in the Texas media on a possible Boeing relocation.
Kevin Quigley, Candidate for Snohomish County Executive. Thanked the Labor Council for the help they had provided over the years in his campaigns, especially the support of the Congressional race a few years back. He said that he understood that, “Your friends can't always be with you”. However, we do share the same values. We’ve got to pay people living wages.” He was grateful for those that did support a dual endorsement in the County Executive’s race. He stated that after he is County Executive he expects to have a good working relationship with Labor. He noted that he had over 200 people at his kickoff, and that he has raised $150,000. He believes that his polling shows that he will win the race. He also wants to make certain that they build the 7E7 here and has respect for the public employees who work in this county.
Doug Campbell, Candidate for Everett City Council, Pos. 6 thanked the Council for its support. He stated he believes that 90% of employees in the City of Everett were supporting his race. The Everett Police have yet to make an endorsement.
John Campbell, Bus. Agt. IBT 763, spoke on the pressure facing police officers in Monroe, due to the shooting of a fugitive who was to serve a life in prison term. He asked for support from the Council in letting his members know they are behind them. Letters and cards of support can be directed to the Monroe Police Department. He stated that,”These guys were put in harms way. The whole department has been professional in their response.”
Lisa Vares, Candidate for Marysville City Council, Pos. 7. noted that she was appointed last month. This will be her first campaign. As of yet, she has no opposition. She thanked the IAFF early endorsement, as well as the Labor Council. She also reported on her other community activities by way of introduction.
Mary Hale, AFT 4254, invited delegates to drop by for the opening of campaign headquarters for the Frank Anderson campaign on July 4th. Help can also be used along the parade route on July 4th.
Chuck Jewell, IBT 38 expressed his dismay at those who had supported SB 6097
Jim Smith, LIUNA 292 promoted the Radio Labor Journal, which is the last Monday of each month on KSER 90.7 FM
